SHORELINE WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT

Whitetail Deer are familiar to anyone living in Connecticut. They have the ability to adapt and live among man quite well.
In our state, the edge habitat between lawns and woods, fields and thickets create food and cover for deer and the
common oak tree supplies a high protein supply of acorns for food some years, but not all.
In 2011, for example, the acorn crop was minimal to non existent, forcing deer to find alternate food sources, which in
turn causes them to move about more and as a result, vehicle strikes as well as deer feeding pressure on
shrubs, gardens and ornamental around homes increases. This is why deer problems can be worse some years.
As a Adult doe will have one or two young a year, regardless off the current or coming food supply, deer numbers can
quickly rise to a level that the land will not support. The amount of deer a given piece of land or property will support ,
or feed and shelter is called carrying capacity.
Hunting is the only way to manage deer populations at an acceptable level. The State of Ct Dep has done a great job
with deer management through set harvest seasons, laws and regulations and monitoring the amount of deer hunters
harvest every year
Deer hunting typically takes place from Sept 15th to Jan. 31st and turkey hunting takes place in May and then again in
the fall.
I have been hunting deer and turkey most of my life and feed my family with it, processing it at my home.
In addition it has been time well spent in the woods.
I am often asked how I started in the wildlife control business and the answer to that is in large part a
result of the time spend in the woods with deer and learning not only about them but other animals in
the Forrest as well. Seeing squirrels, mink, skunks, fox and coyote and learning about them developed
an appreciation and understanding for all these animals that continues to grow to this day.
I use hunting as a means for food, recreation and wildlife management. If you have property that you
may allow deer hunting on or would like to trade other wildlife services for deer or turkey hunting
privileges, please contact me. We have made these arrangements in the past to the benefit of both the
homeowner/landowner and ourself.
Feel free to call or email me with any questions you might have.

Turkey hunting takes place in Late April
through May. Turkeys are a challenge to
hunt although they may not seem that
way if they are in your backyard, there
wildness really takes over in the woods.
Call us for any turkey problems you may
be experiencing.
