I removed this Sow raccoon from a chimney this week in Branford CT. She did not have her pups yet, but was close. That is Branford point in the background. This time of the year we remove raccoons from chimneys ,attics, ceiling and sometimes walls. They will nest under house’s too. If you hear noise’s in your chimney or attic, give us a call. We can remove these animals fast, usually in one hour and keep them from getting back in.

Shoreline towns like Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton, Westbrook, Old Saybrook, Lyme and others are the areas for this activity to most likely take place since a majority of Connecticut s raccoon population is along the shore and tidal marsh’s.

This young deer happened to be on my front lawn in Clinton the first nice day we had this week when the temperature hit 80 degrees. It did not escape the notice of our dog though but was basically unfazed by the barking. A common sight for CT Shoreline residents.

A sure sign of warmer days ahead.

Raccoons tore the ridge vent off this new roof in East Haven Ct. This time of year, females will try to get inside the attic to have their young and male animals will try to get in to find a female and mate again, even if it means killing the pups just born. The female knows this and will avoid the male and fight him if necessary. Trapping is underway to remove the raccoons so the damage to the roof can be repaired.

While we do not have any animals to adopt and our work is exclusively with wildlife, I’d like to recommend the Branford animal shelter. http://www.branfordanimalshelter.org/index.html

The folks at the Branford animal shelter are wonderful to deal with and always seem to have numerous dogs, cats and even rabbits for adoption. Last time I was there I believe they had ferrets too so give them a call, you never know what they may have and it just might be what you are looking for.

I’m sure you are all as excited as I am for springs arrival. Each week gets a little nicer, a little warmer. With springs arrival comes the bat activity in CT. Bats that have hibernated in an attic for the winter will awaken from their slumber and become active as well as those migrating back from other places where they spent the last five months. Bats will start to have their young in late April to early June.

Raccoons and skunks are also ready to give birth in the next couple months and gray squirrels have already started, the first ones just now showing up in CT. It is early and they will continue to have a drawn out birthing season over the course of the spring. Mice can have multiple litter, year round but the frequency of their litters will pick up in the spring and summer months.

Bats will typically have their young in attic or walls. Include cathedral and vaulted ceilings to that list as well. Skunks of course will birth under homes and sheds , the same going for raccoons with the addition of attics and chimney flues since they are apt climbers. Squirrels are like bats in where they will pick to have their young, attics, ceilings and walls although the occasional enterprising female squirrel will pick and give birth in drop panel ceilings between floors, garages, sheds and crawl spaces under homes.

Over the years I have been doing this type of work, some of the unusual spots I’ve seen wildlife give birth have been a raccoon and her pups in a truck cab on a used car parking lot, gray squirrel under the hood of a seldom used car in a garage, raccoons inside a wall of a store and birds in merchandise for sale at the bigger box stores.

In the early summer as a lot of these young are weaned and start to move about on their own, their antics can keep me bus as they fall into chimneys, get into dryer vents, trapped in window wells along the side of a house or just loose, flying or running around inside homes. But that is a topic for another time.

Have a great spring everyone!! Lenny Gorski

It is that time of the year. Gray squirrels, flying squirrel , mice and rats can make a LOT of noise in your ceiling, attic or walls.
Coming in from the cold they also have mating on their mind. Jan/Feb is the mating time in CT for a lot of animals or pest we deal with, including raccoons and skunks.
I take my time and have the experience to identify any problem be it noise, odors, animal droppings or stains as well as chewed wires and box’s.

We receive calls year round for deer problems. If you have issues with them in your garden, eating shrubs or are concerned about ticks, now is the time to give us a call.
Hunting season is now underway and in the past we have removed many deer for customers who have had problems with deer.
For archery or shotgun hunting, there is no minimum land requirements. The amount of land needed will vary depending on the method used to remove the deer but we have removed deer from property’s as small as a couple acres.
Call me if you have any questions regarding deer hunting and if this may be an option for you. I have over 30 years experience safely and humanely removing deer. It is a sound and smart way to manage the deers overall numbers to balance them with the available habitat.
Sept through Dec is the best time to consider deer management.
